How It Works

  1. Upload one or more standard MIDI files (.mid)
  2. The converter analyzes each file and detects an optimal left/right hand split point
  3. Notes are reassigned to MIDI channels 3 (left hand) and 4 (right hand) β€” the channels Casio uses for key lighting
  4. Download the converted files, transfer to USB or send via MIDI to your keyboard

Keyboard Setup

Configure your Casio keyboard to respond to the converted MIDI channels:

MENU β†’ SETTING β†’ MIDI In Navigate
Set to: "Listen" (or "Right Hand Off" / "Left Hand Off")

Verify channels:
MIDI In Navi Ch Right = 4
MIDI In Navi Ch Left  = 3

FAQ

What is Key Lighting / MIDI In Navigate?

Key Lighting is a Casio feature where the keyboard physically illuminates the keys you need to press. "MIDI In Navigate" allows external MIDI data (from a file or computer) to control which keys light up. The keyboard expects left-hand notes on MIDI channel 3 and right-hand notes on channel 4.

Why do I need to convert my MIDI files?

Standard MIDI files use arbitrary channel assignments. Casio's lighting system requires notes to be on specific channels (3 for left hand, 4 for right hand). This converter reorganizes the channels and intelligently splits notes between the hands.

What does "split point" mean?

The split point is the MIDI note number that divides left and right hand. Notes below this value go to the left hand (channel 3), and notes at or above go to the right hand (channel 4). Auto-detect finds a natural gap in the note distribution. Middle C (60) is the default fallback.

Is this free? Do you store my files?

Yes, this tool is completely free. Uploaded files are temporarily stored for processing and automatically deleted after 7 days. We do not share or analyze your MIDI files beyond conversion.

Where can I find MIDI files for songs I want to learn?

Many websites offer free MIDI files β€” search for "free piano MIDI files" or try Mutopia Project, MuseScore, or piano-midi.de.
